Firefighters had to extricate both of them from their Toyota Sienna after the crash with an Interstate Waste Disposal rig at Closter Dock Road and High Street around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, responders said.

Both were conscious and alert when taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, Closter Police Detective Lt. Vincent Aiello said.

The minivan was traveling east on High Street, which is controlled by a stop sign, when it proceeded into the intersection and was struck by the truck, which was headed north on Closter Dock Road and had the right of way, witnesses said.

Interstate has a yard on nearby Railroad Avenue.

The Closter Volunteer Ambulance & Rescue Squad was joined by EMS crews from Norwood and Demarest. Firefighters from Alpine and Haworth were also among the mutual responders.

The landing zones were set up at Memorial Field and the nearby Tenakill Middle School.
